About

Izabela Tolentino

Game Designer

izabela.tolentino@gmail.com

I am a game designer who loves to convey stories through games. Whether it’s through how the main character deals with obstacles, what the main objectives are, or even what kinds of rewards the player may get, I enjoy designing and playing games that players can both enjoy and learn something from.

As a recent graduate with a B.S. in Math-Computer Science, I have extensive experience in programming, writing mathematical proofs, and general problem-solving. In combination with my personal experience playing countless hours and critically analyzing games across diverse genres, it enables me to take into account various ideas and help creatively design them in a way to solve problems given any constraints the game may have.

In addition to playing games, I love to draw, dance, take photos, watch anime, and browse through cute dog pictures during my free time.

Drawing

  • Helps me to communicate my design ideas through visuals
  • An understanding of color theory and design choices in illustrations and concept art
  • Empathic appreciation of the valuable work of artists in the game industry

Dancing

  • Years of constant dance critique made me hungry for feedback to improve my design work
  • Collaboration with teammates on our performances translated to how I work with others
  • Having opportunities to teach movement to others strengthened my communication skills

Photography

  • Understanding of light and composition helps me to better understand the visual and artistic aspects of game development such as:
    • Camera design in games
    • Simulation of aperture and depth of field found in many 3D games
    • How light, shapes, and framing can help implicitly guide a player's attention
